“That looks like a ship of some kind.” Kyriac had noticed it
at first, something tumbling from orbit that wasn’t on a controlled flight
path. They were half way back to the city proper and Deliah already felt like
things were about to get worse.
“Probably a shuttle from the ships overhead, look’s damaged
to me, best to just ignore it.” She knew they wouldn’t ignore it, knew it after
Kyriac had opened his mouth.
“You just want to ignore everyone don’t you?”
“Do you want to live or not? Hard choices have to be made, I
make them all the time, and you better start making them.” Kyriac was quiet and
Deliah thought she won the point. They drove in silence, She could see from the
smoke the wreck was coming up on their right, it appeared like Morlatech
already had their metal men on the ground near it.
“So you’re just going to leave them to die to horrible metal
men…” Kyriac said it like a child asking his mother why she’s ignoring the
world and Deliah knew it would only get worse from here.
“Gods damn it.” She swung the truck left so hard Kyriac got
jostled in his seat. She at least took joy in that for the brief moment of him
being off balanced. She knew things had just gotten worse and it hadn’t even
taken that long to get there.
