Not Hired Based On Intelligence

It's best to not think about your assignments as enemies, its best to think of them as gathering intelligence on friends. -Imperial Guard Field Manual

Everyone is my enemy, even when they are my friend, eventually things will turn south because they always do. - Chronicles of Lorentino

"Mr. Staber." The mister was the most derisive thing Aldis Morley said. Aldis was the oldest of the Morley children, not yet afflicted with his father's malady he was known to be centuries old and crueler with every year. Straber had made the mistake of wondering why he continued to employ Delorey, especially after Delorey had shot two of their own employees. Aldis had summoned Straber to his dark office and Straber knew his mistake by the cold way he'd been greeted.

"Sir I want to..."

"Piss me off by trying explain your behavior? Yes Mr. Straber I'm aware." Aldis was rather large, everyone though by his voice he'd be thin, but he was very much overweight and had a glisten of sweat on him. Straber thought in a different circumstance he'd feel pity and not fear for Aldis.

"I just don't understand why you want to keep Delorey, he shot two people, he's clearly not who he said he was."

"Precisely because he's not who he says he is, he's an operative for some group and I want to find out why and who and I can't do that if we kill him or cut him loose. If we expose this operative they might send someone more competent next time."

"So you want me to continue employing a spy?" Aldis looked more perturbed than when he started.

"I want you to follow orders, and I want you to stop fucking with my plan." Straber felt his face go flush he wanted to shout this fat idiot down, but he knew that would go poorly for him. However Aldis looked physically, magically he was dangerous Straber recalled the cleaning crews description of the man he replaced.

"Yes Sir."

"Now get out of here Straber, I'm tired of looking at you." Straber felt red in his face again, but he did as he was ordered. He couldn't get rid of Delorey, but that didn't mean he couldn't make things worse for him, Aldis be damned.
