My favorite scheme is pretending to be someone else's prisoner, it works so reliably you'd think someone would warn people about the nature of false prisoners! - Chronicles of Lorentino
"I'm here with my prisoner Trezlan Lorentino." Gingrey didn't think he sounded believable, but the men under his charge let him get by without so much as a second thought. I smiled as we got on to the shuttle up.
"Told you it would work."
"It shouldn't work, this is insane, how would I capture you?"
"Guile, you've got plenty of guile."
"Well my guile is about to run down my leg Trezlan." That caused me to laugh, though I wasn't laughing when I saw the fleet up above. Apparently Morley wasn't screwing around seeing the kind of escort he brought. Which should have been obvious in the glassing to begin with, but I guess I thought maybe killing me once was good enough? Now the bigger problem for us was getting by the initial ground party was nothing to getting by everyone on a fleet ship. Especially once it was obvious I wasn't an actual prisoner. I hadn't exactly brought this up with Phil because I guess I just assumed something would work out for us. Which is pretty much exactly what happened.
We were half way to the fleet ship when a new fleet showed up and attacked. The new fleet didn't have traditional marking at all. Or any markings really. I at first was worried this was another group of assholes I'd managed to upset (hundreds of years, lots of time to make people unhappy), but I did see on Phil's screen SiC putting up a command to stand down or be destroyed. I instructed Phil to do as the robot said.
"You have a fleet of ships?"
"Apparently yes, yes I do." I recall instructing SiC to rebuild in what felt like a lifetime ago. I didn't recall him saying to build a gods damned fleet, but you know you leave vague instructions. Phil tried to order the rest of his fleet to stand down, but Morley's people fled rather than be captured, which probably not the smartest thing to do when dealing with Morley? But I couldn't blame them when they got assaulted out of no where.
"Morlatech vessel prepare to be boarded." The voice was not one I had heard before, but figured in my time away the AI probably had done a lot I wasn't aware of.
"Please be gentle its my first time." I admit I'm not the best person to respond to commands.
"Trezlan? Oh thank the gods we thought you were dead."
"It's a long story, one I could tell you as soon me and Phil are off this ship."
"Phil?"
"Longer story, just hurry up, and we have to rescue someone else I almost forgot about." Poor Luke was it better to be almost forgotten? Considering what almost happened to him, no, not it was not. But that is as they say the next entry.
