"You're some kind of wizard right?" Wizard, a term as insulting as spell flinger, magic chucker, or sparkle fingers. A lowly common man's word for invoking raw power into affecting the material world. The Mayor was sitting across from me, his chair was a lavish rich wood one, mine was a simple stool probably a foot stool.
"I wouldn't say that, as I told you before I'm just a traveler, magic is just a word." Speak in riddles to fool the idiots.
"Don't bullshit me, I have friends up above, I asked around about you, a Colonel Rojove would be mighty interested you are in fact alive and not eaten like he had previously heard." I figured he might have outside of Undertown connections, this just confirmed it. Now I had to wonder if he was installed as dictator, or happened to luck into it and the Ronerawth government kept him there so they could have their boot on the necks of Undertown without it being obvious.
"What do you want Mr. Mayor?" I had to cut through the bullshit, the stool was hurting me.
"I want you gone, I don't need you in my town. I'll show you the way, I'm sure you can talk your way past the guards and sneak out of the city, and if you can't I don't care, you either do that or I'll have the Colonel down here."
"And for this I'll be given what?"
"You're life and potential freedom, look you're trouble, you'll rile up the masses and I don't want that, no one here wants that, we have a good thing and without you it will only get better, so get lost." He stood up and directed me to do as much. I couldn't argue with the reasoning, and my past adventures showed of course that I'm bad for everyone, hell I myself came to the same conclusion when I withdrew from the world. I made my way out and back to Dak's place, I wished him well and he did the same for me. Undertown was not my kind of place, it wasn't a place for a depraved person like myself, and I knew that. Even with the Mayor's boot on the neck of the town, it would be better than anything I could inflict.
So with my ribs still hurting, but my wrists free I made my way out of Undertown and back to Dunlok proper, hoping that my word slinging could avoid my spell slinging.
