“You’re a terrible shot Kyriac.” Deliah was picking over one
of the bodies of the rebels; there had been three of them to add to the body
count of the mercs earlier. They had
been driving a truck much like the mercs except theirs had a vehicle mounted
machine gun and it still ran a major plus.
“Oh I’m sorry Ms. Professional Murderer I’ll try to get
better in my first live combat experience!”
“Make sure that you do, I’m tired of picking up the slack
here.” Kyriac hadn’t turned on her yet, which was a plus, but he was a terrible
shot, which was a negative. Deliah snagged the keys from one of the dead rebels;
she popped the hood on the truck and looked at the engine. Nothing looked too eminent that something was
wrong; it was a combustion engine like the mercs truck. Everything on New Lork was garbage like that,
as a colony it had been decidedly low tech even prior to the war.
“So do we have wheels or are we walking?” Kyriac carrying
the merc rifle looked hilarious; it was almost as tall as he was.
“We have wheels, at least as long as the fuel lasts, I’d
syphon some from the other truck but I don’t think we have that much time the
mercs most certainly called in.” Deliah got into the driver’s seat, Kyriac slid
into the passenger seat and she started the truck up. With a quick back up they
were on the road and away from the site of the massacre. Deliah really didn’t
have any idea where they were going, away was all she could think of, maybe she
could find some run down forgotten transport field and from there a shuttle off
this hell hole, but she knew that was so much of a pipe dream.
“I don’t mean to be all contradictory, but we are currently
running from the side you are supposed to
be on right?”
“I forgot to mention I’m wanted for treason against the
Drydek corporation.”
“Are you guilty of it?” Kyriac kept his eyes facing forward,
Deliah didn’t have her gun drawn but that didn’t mean she couldn’t kill him
before he could fight back.
“Nope, I do recon work mostly, deep behind the lines stuff,
which probably would make it easier to be a traitor, but I’m not one. Not like I could really prove it though and
I’m sure they have a nice story about some attack I was behind or so much
bullshit.” Deliah had her mask up, it was the only way to really drive, the
extra visual features were nice, but screwed with peripheral vision too badly.
“Well you saved my ass and seem equal opportunity as a
murderer, good enough for me; I have no loyalty to Drydek.” Deliah smiled, she
really didn’t want to have to murder Kyriac. They drove on, outside of the
twisted city and into the empty dusty wasteland. Deliah hated New Lork, it was
truly one big ass dust ball.
